A new year is here! For me, now is a a time to reflect on the past year, the good & the bad.
What I can learn from it, what I could have done better and what I did accomplish and did right.
It’s also the time that most people take the time to think what they’ll do differently next year.
Yes, the new year’s resolutions. It’s actually a beautiful thing, wanting to grow and do better.
And yet, a lot of us make empty promises to ourselves, because it can be hard to follow through.
Here are a few things I’m keeping in mind for the new year.
Create a vision
Take the time to see and imagine what you want to happen, create a vision, a dream to go after. So when you feel you’re tempted by old routines and habits, go back to that place. See your dream, see your victories, even if their not there yet!
“Vision gives pain a purpose”. – K. Vallotton
Unforgiveness keeps us tied to the past. Forgive, not because the people who hurt you deserve it, but because you do. It can be hard, but the first step is to choose to forgive, and then slowly let go of the things that have kept you from being free!
Two years ago me and Aron made a special jar where we’d write down small notes about the things happening in our lives that we were thankful for and happy about in the moment. In the end of the year we had filled the jar with memories! On January 1st we sat down and read to each other all the lovely memories. We began the year so grateful for the past year, and exited to make the next one even better.
Write down all the things you’re thankful for that happened last year! It keeps your memories safe, it’s a lot of fun to go back to and it’s a great way to start a new year! Gratitude changes everything. It’s a key to happiness and gives you perspective and hope in your present moment.
Take time to do new things this year! Get out of the comfort zone! Make a to-do list for yourself, what do you want to accomplish this year? It can be small or drastic things – everything from asking someone out for coffee, go snorkeling, reconnecting with old friends, cook more, take classes or go sky diving! Anything that you feel will help you expand and add happiness to your life! Sometimes it’s crucial to be intentional with your time, to plan ahead the things your heart desires so we won’t just forget them in our busy days.
