Last week I turned 25. I feel like I can genuinely say now that I’m all grown up. But I’m also learning that life is all about just that. Growing and learning. It’s a constant process through out life, and by keeping that in mind it’s easier to extend grace to yourself in tough times and keeping ourselves humble. We should always be learning.
Here are some important life lessons I’ve learned in the past few years.
Be kind to yourself
Life can be unkind with many unexpected bumps on they way. Give yourself the grace you need and treat yourself they way you would treat someone else going through the same. Sometimes we are the toughest on ourselves. Give yourself time to rest, cry, breath. What ever you need in that moment.
Keep it real
You can’t please everyone, you’re not a Nutella jar! You’re just you. Perfectly imperfect you. There will always be people on the way that wont like everything about you. Learning to love myself has been one of the most important things I’ve learned in my short few years, and I’m of course still working on it. That I’m just me, and that’s more than enough.
It’s easy to get isolated in our busy schedules. Being intentional in my relationships and how I spend my time has been a crucial lesson for me. Sometimes we have people in our lives, going in the same direction and it’s easy and natural to spend time with them. But what happens when your directions change? Pick your friends wisely, the one’s you want to be there in the future, that inspire you and are true friends, and water those relationships by being intentional with your time.
Not to sound too cliché, but this is still one of the most important things! To dream, and to dream big. Whatever it is. Don’t settle. You only live once! Last five years I’ve traveled to 4 continents, learned to scuba dive, jumped out of an airplane, swam with sharks, got married, had 9 different homes, and moved to Asia to a country I had never even been to! God is so good, and I’ve learned so much on the way.
Go your own way, the traditional formulas work for some and that’s awesome, but that doesn’t apply to everyone. Sometimes you have to pave the way for your own dreams and passions. Just have faith in yourself and surround yourself with people that are supportive!
I’m grateful for what I’ve learned along the way, and I’m exited for the years ahead & adventures to come! Thank you all for the birthday love on Instagram & Facebook, and in real life! Had a lovely, long birthday weekend in Akureyri with my love and family that spoiled me good!
