9 Habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle

Living a healthy lifestyle is all about making good choices and making healthy habits! It’s sounds easy and it can be! These are some of the habits that I have found that make me happy and also lead to the most successful days…..when I actually follow through! Great habits are useless unless you apply them to your life!

 

Wake up early

To start your day early, you need to go to bed early. Basically, the success of your morning depends on when you go to sleep. Most successful people have it in common that they wake up early and use the morning wisely to prepare themselves for the upcoming day. I feel that my life is much more balanced and in routine when I use my mornings wisely! Leading to my next habit.

Hot water with lemon

Before having anything else, start by drinking a glass of hot water with a bit of fresh squeezed lemon in it, it’s a miracle drink to say the least! I recently read an article in the local newspaper, here in Iceland, where a doctor said that if he could give people one advice, it would be to start the day with a glass of hot water with lemon. So, what does it do? It prepares your digestive system for the upcoming foods, helps your liver to detox and stimulates weight loss! It can also help with acne and other skin problems, reduce inflammation and some say they it gives you a rush of energy. Try it for a week, you won’t be disappointed!

Healthy breakfast

Breakfast is the first meal of the day, and it is where your body will fetch it’s energy from, amongst your sleep of course, for the next hours. The cleaner you eat, the better! I love to start my mornings with a smoothie, packed with fruits, vegetables, seeds and healthy oils that give me all the nutritions I need for the upcoming day!

 

Meditate

It’s not only your body that needs nourishment, but also your mind and spirit! Meditation is a great way to do so! It calms your mind, helps you have better control of your thoughts and nourishes your spirit! I often start my day on reading and then meditating and processing the good words I just read!

Start on the hardest task

I’m a natural procrastinator and have a history of leaving the hardest & most boring tasks to last. I can not underline the importance this has made for me when I actually start the day on solving the hardest task, whether it being a project at work, doing the dishes or writing a blog post! The whole day gets so much easier! You feel productive and successful and it gives you a positive confidence boost to take on the next task.

Clean up after yourself, right away

My procrastination skills often play a big role here, but I have found out that I am so much happier in a clean and tidy environment. Your first instinct may not always be to clean up right away, but it pays of!

Exercise

If you want to be healthy, exercise is a vital part. Find a sport or some exercise you enjoy. It can be zumba, running, trampoline or swimming, the important thing is that you enjoy it! I recently started to train kick box, and I love it! I am excited to go to training and it motivates me to eat healthy and get a good night sleep!

Seek advise from people you trust

We’re only human, and we don’t have all the answers ourselves! Seeking advice and help from others is one of the best things you can do in my opinion. To learn of the mistakes of others so you don’t have to do them yourself is priceless. We also have great experience with letting people we trust speak into our lives as we often don’t see ourselves and circumstances in they way we should or in the right perspective. As long as we are willing to learn we will continue to grow and mature!

Make new healthy habits, step by step

What we think generates what we do, what we do generates our habits and our habits ultimately make our lifestyle! Healthy habits lead to a healthy lifestyle! But it’s important to realize that you don’t make habits over night, and you most likely won’t be able to change all your habits straight away. Start small, and then step by step apply more healthy habits to your life. By trying to change everything at once can be to much. It may actually lead to no change at all, as you are more likely to get discouraged when you don’t succeed  everywhere and that often leads to giving up entirely. By taking time and making changes over a longer period of time, you are  making it easier for your changes to transform into habits and your habits into your new healthy lifestyle!
