Oh how I love winter

  • Published in Travel

Why do we not travel more in the winter time? I can't believe that we Icelanders don't travel more around our country during winter!

One week ago we went on a spontaneous trip to the beautiful town of Akureyri and what a beautiful country we have. Seeing it in it's cold winter clothes is amazing and so different than it is in the summer. This trip has really opened my eyes for exploring my country during other seasons than the typical summer months, just can't imagine all the time I have been at home, inside because of the cold, waisting my time watching episodes of Friends (which I have seen at least 5 times before) and missing out on the majestic landscapes and nature just outside my doorstep. Well not any more. I am determined to travel more, see more and experience more of Iceland!

We shots some pictures and videos along the way and here's a video I put together from our trip. Enjoy!

Happy new year!

What a great year we leave behind! Me and Dagbjört had our best Christmas so far and we can't wait to see new dreams come true in 2014. We spent most of our time this holiday with our families and close friends, and it's safe to say that we wont get hungry the next couple of months.

It's always a challenge to start the daily routine again, but I am super excited to start this year with a blast. My new years resolution is to love my wife even more than last year (peace of pie), eat healthier and master the art of video editing and filming. We'll se how it goes! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and may this year be a great blessing to you all!

Here is a short video from our Christmas preparation and holiday, enjoy!

Super dad!

Yesterday we went home to my parents to celebrate the day my dad, Bjarni Gíslason, was born. Dad is one of my favorite persons on the planet and one of the greatest guys out there! He has always been there for me, supported me and has always had faith in me.

The first song that comes to my mind when I think about dad is "Flash" by Queen, (click here to view). Well this song describes my dad pretty well: "Flash, saviour of the universe." You may find this a bit dramatic of me to compare him to the savoiur of the universe, but you should have seen him in his thirties, long dark hair, well trimmed beard, leather jacket and last but not the least he drove a motorcycle!

Ever since he was born in Konso, Ethiopia, in 1961, he has been changing lives. My parents dedicated 8 years of their lives to missionary and aid to the people of Ethiopia. Now my dad works for the Icelandic Church Aid, so day by day he saves the world for people all over the world and still manages to be the best dad in the world! Happy birthday, we love you! Here is a short video I shot during his birthdayparty!

My second home

I found myself going through some of the pictures I have taken last couple of years on my film camera, and noticed that a lot of them are shot either drinking coffee or at a coffeehouse. Ironically I am sitting at Sufistinn, local café in Hafnarfjörður when I am writing this. Once again I find myself in a drinking a soya latte with my beautiful wife Dagbjört and I started wondering how many hours we spend working, talking, laughing and dreaming in different coffee places. I love that coffee is a big part of the Icelandic culture and I love observing people in coffee places as coffee and coffeehouses have different meaning for different people. For me, coffee is not only about the cup itself but who you share it with.
