Chickpea Tikka Masala

As many of you know Iceland’s mens football (soccer) team was competing for the first time in a major tournament at the Euro 2016 in France. The nation was paralyzed and full of pride after amazing results! Families and friends gathered to watch the games together and me and Dagbjört were no exceptions there. We love introducing our vegan and veggie lifestyle to other people and try to use every opportunity to do so. On game day I get really anxious and stressed so when we were going to cook for our family when Iceland was playing Ronaldo and all…

A cheap and easy way to glam up your home!

Hello sweethearts. Lately, me and Aron have been remodeling our home. We've been upgrading and buying new things, but also giving old furniture new life with makeovers! Check out how we transformed our TV cabinet last month! Our most recent project was making our living room a bit more glamorous with new art prints and frames! We found old, black frames and sprayed them gold. It lit up the space and gave it that extra glam we were looking for!  Be careful, you'll be tempted to start spraying everything gold in your house. Remember to keep the right amount of distance…

Vegan Garlic Stir-Fry

Tasty Tuesday is back! We have made a small change to this section of our site, we will now be posting a new recipe every other week instead of every week as we have thus far been doing. Main reason being that we want to focus as much on lifestyle/fashion posts as we do on food/recipe posts. But don’t worry, we will keep giving you the best yummy and awesome recipes every other week. That being said let’s make something tasty! One of my favorite ingredients to cook with is garlic. It’s just makes everything better! Yesterday I was thinking…

DIY - Living room cabinet transformation

We love doing makeovers on old furniture and giving them new life, and I am happy to say we finally finished our latest project, after weeks of procrastination. We found an old and worn out cabinet and bought it for cheap. We saw potential in it, but we were amazed at how beautiful and elegant it turned out! So here’s what we did: • We bought white paint, golden spray and a lot of nail polish remover & cotton buds.• We started on the cabinet top, removing the old varnish by rubbing it away with cotton buds soaked in nail…

The Mighty Spicy Quinoa Salad!

Today's recipe is a one of my personal favorites. This spicy salad is bursting with flavor and vitamins, and tastes ridiculously good. I love spicy food, but for some reason I had never really thought of combining that with my boring salads! Spicy salad. Where have you been all my life? Fresh salad, quinoa, beans and hot sauce! Too easy. Ingredients • 1 cup quinoa• 6 cups fresh spinach, arugula and other salad of your choice• 1 red onion, chopped• 1 can pinto beans• 1 cup corn• 1 red bell pepper, chopped   Spicy Dressing • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped•…

How to relax and unwind after a long day

We have all experienced coming home tired and even stressed after a long and hectic day. I have those days regularly, where I feel exhausted, tired and often a bit stressed as well. I've lately seen a pattern for how I spend the first hours when I come home these days.  All I want to do is to relax and calm down and what I frequently do, and I think many of you can probably relate, is to sit down in front of my laptop or TV. I often think that by watching an episode or browsing the web is…

Quinoa Goreng With Turmeric!

When we lived in Bali, Indonesia, we quickly learned to cook Nasi Goreng (fried rice), and some days we ate nothing else! It’s quick, easy and really delicious. Since we moved back to Iceland we've started to use quinoa instead of rice and we’re totally loving it! Quinoa is naturally gluten-free and contains iron, B-vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, vitamin E and fiber. It is one of only a few plant foods that are considered a complete protein and comprised of all pernine essential amino acids. Turmeric is also loaded with many healthy nutrients such as protein, dietary fiber, niacin,…

Underrated things about being in your mid twenties

Last Friday, Aron, my lovely and amazing man turned 26 years old. How time flies. We celebrated in a cottage in the country side for the weekend.  Upon further thinking about how "old" we're getting, there are a few underrated things about being in your mid twenties. I mean... you can brag about how much sleep you got, not about how late you were out partying. You’re the last generation to remember life before the internet. You can’t wait to do nothing on the weekends. Literally nothing at all. You start to feel confident about your ability to keep a…

Celebrating women with smoothies!

Yesterday was Konudagur (Woman’s Day), an Icelandic tradition, roughly equivalent to Valentine’s Day in other countries. It’s a day where men celebrate their special someone with flowers and gifts, and sometimes other significant women in their lives too, like mother and daughters. Aron definitely took me by surprise when he walked into the bedroom with a party hat on, threw balloons into the bed where I was laying, and then brought me a chocolate-strawberry smoothie (see recipe below), flowers and a gift containing an adorable glass jewelry box, a ring and earrings!  Later we went on a walk to get…

Is snapchat really storing & selling our pictures?

Sometimes gray days are good for you

The amazing health benefits of being a vegetarian

We have now been meat free for over one month! Why? Short answer: We love vegetables and after a lot of research we saw some great health benefits that we did not want to miss out on, which I also go into more details later in this post. Backstory: It all started after we moved to Bali and the quality of meat was not as good as the quality of vegetables and fruits, as well as it was a lot more expensive. We slowly started cooking a lot more of vegetable dishes automatically, like this delicious "Mongo bongo", up to…

Yule Cat

"The Yule Cat (Icelandic: Jólakötturinn or Jólaköttur) is a monster from Icelandic folklore, a huge and vicious cat said to lurk about the snowy countryside during Christmastime and eat people who have not received any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve. The Yule Cat has become associated with other figures from Icelandic folklore as the house pet of the giantess Grýla and her sons, the Yule Lads. The threat of being eaten by the Yule Cat was used by farmers as an incentive for their workers to finish processing the autumn wool before Christmas. The ones who took part…

I always buy these great books and start off real well and then I see another one lying around and never finish what I started. Anyone else like that? Well. Not this time - hot tea and a…

Words create worlds

I've been reading alot of articles and stories lately on the occasion of Icelands annual 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. This is something that should be important for everybody since it affects us all. We are born into society that teaches us who we are as women and men, and sadly, we still have a long way to go. But we are moving forward day by day, by people who know that words create worlds. That what we agree with is what molds our environment (among other things of course). And sometimes we just agree with society, because…

Super dad!

Yesterday we went home to my parents to celebrate the day my dad, Bjarni Gíslason, was born. Dad is one of my favorite persons on the planet and one of the greatest guys out there! He has always been there for me, supported me and has always had faith in me.The first song that comes to my mind when I think about dad is "Flash" by Queen, (click here to view). Well this song describes my dad pretty well: "Flash, saviour of the universe." You may find this a bit dramatic of me to compare him to the savoiur of…

My second home

I found myself going through some of the pictures I have taken last couple of years on my film camera, and noticed that a lot of them are shot either drinking coffee or at a coffeehouse. Ironically I am sitting at Sufistinn, local café in Hafnarfjörður when I am writing this. Once again I find myself in a drinking a soya latte with my beautiful wife Dagbjört and I started wondering how many hours we spend working, talking, laughing and dreaming in different coffee places. I love that coffee is a big part of the Icelandic culture and I love…

Ingibjörg

Today we got to spend a little time with my adorable stepsister, Ingibjörg. Lets just say she's always the 'life of the party', full of joy and confidence. She's the loudest person I know, and I love that about her! She's just amazing and she knows it. Here are some really cute candid shots I got of her when she was playing with Aron at a local café.

Today was a good day!

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.” - Albert Einstein. What we dream now is what is yet to come, and we'll only see our dreams fulfilled if we first dare to dream it. We're trying to dream limitlessly, asking ourselves, if there were no obstacles, what would we do! Because in reality, the only obstacles are those we make ourselves. Well, today was SUPER encouraging, almost 600 visits to our website on our third day! Wow! Thank you guys! So honored! Stay tuned!

House of Horror

Hey guys! Today's pictures are very interesting, actually one of my favorite latest shoots. I got the oppurtunity to take pictures for Skemmtigarðurinn, a themepark in Kópavogur (actually the only themepark in Iceland). They really went all the way this year with their House of Horror! When I got there my flash broke (great timing), but it actually worked for the best, I used the lighting in the horror house itself and it came out perfect, very dark and mysterious.

Airwaves

Last weekend we accidently found ourselves in an off-venue Ariwaves concert at a cute coffeehouse in Reykjavik. Our friend Ingunn Huld was playing as well as this girl Ásta Björg and her band, beautiful music, both very talented. Luckily I brought my camera with me and got some cute shots of them and the crowd. I especially loved the shots I got of a young mother with her babygirl, they were so full of joy! Very adorable! Im wondering where I can find they're music, if anyone knows (Google didn't help) I'd love to know!
